I stepped outside my house at 2am which just happened to be the exact right time to spot a Tawny Frogmouth fly along the street at head level and then perch on a street sign just opposite me:

I've seen them in the neighbourhood so I knew they had to be around pretty much every night but this is the first time I've seen one this close to my house in 16 years of living here.

As you can see I got right up next to the sign, the Frogmouth froze in place and was doing its impersonation of a broken tree branch which is how it usually avoids predators. Someone should tell it that only works in trees and not when it's sitting on a street sign.
