IMO the 1953 Studebaker Starliner Coupe was one of the most beautiful American cars of that era. Unfortunately for Studebaker's sales, however, it was a rather radical design for the time, almost looking more like a European car than an American one. To my eyes it almost looks sort of like an Americanized Citroen DS, which is appealing to me looking at them 65 years in the future, but wasn't what American car buyers wanted at the time. The 1956 Hawk, on the other hand, just looks like an awkward low budget update of the 1953 design, which is pretty much what it was as Studebaker didn't have the funds to design any more totally new cars by that point.
