I could go on to explain how this is the first actual day job I've had in over 20 years, that every other job was 2nd- or even 3rd-shift except for a year and a half of tech school with morning classes and a few months of training I got on the job after graduation.

I've spent the better part of 20 years getting up near noon and working until midnight or even 8 pm to 7 am.

Mornings are largely foreign to me, and have been for a long time.

Sure, those folks get up a lot earlier than I do, but I've probably been getting up later for longer. It takes a while to adjust to a 7 am alarm.

But that doesn't prevent me feeling like I've put my foot in my mouth when I even light-heartedly complain about having to get up at 7 am now when they come back with having to get up at 4 am...
