The farmer's almanac seems to think that phases of the moon matter but they're methods aren't the most - scientific. There are lots of rules about when to plant specific plants, like you plant potatoes on St. Patrick's Day, plant your shallots on the shortest day and harvest them on the longest, the worst day to plant is on the 31st of any month, for plants that ripen underground, plant the seeds in the afternoon to achieve the best growth, etc., but they're more rules to remind you when you should plant a specific vegetable.
