Cool! I love it! Now they need to do one for boy ponies! :D

TallGeekyGirl 29 March 2011 02:43 PM

I generally don't have much of an opinion one way or another about fan art, but this one is just too cool...

And here are stats for playing the three pony types in Paizo's Pathfinder RPG.

Unfortunately, the rules for Cutie Marks are on a non-existent page 35. http://message.snopes.com/images/icons/icon606.gif

Eh, I prefer the core Advanced Stables & Stallions anyway.

Here's a big MLP:FiM survey!

See where you rank amongst the other ravenous MLP fans out there in Internet-land! :D

TallGeekyGirl 03 April 2011 06:36 PM

Here's a review by two guys who also found themselves liking the show in spite of themselves. It's a long video (48 minutes!) and has some NFBSK language, but it gives a good overview as two why the show is so good.

All I know about MLP is what I've seen and read in this thread (and I can't watch the videos on my computer), but I must say that this is absolutely brilliant. The creator is obviously a big Kirby fan.

If I saw the faux-Kirby version of Pinkie Pie charging at me, I'd kiss my (pony) goodbye.

Two of my favorite things... My Little Pony and the Pirates of the Caribbean movies! :D

As usual, it's funnier if you've seen the original. It's surprising how well the two can mesh, mostly due to the chaotic nature of the source material.

Also, Lauren Faust is selling (among other things) an original Derpy Hooves sketch to benefit Japan - though good luck getting it since the bidding is already over $2,000 (and seems legit).

As Weird Al tweeted yesterday, this is the MLP/Weird Al video the world has been waiting for.

I'm just glad they said "CLAP along" instead of "CLOP along."

"Clop" has taken on a rather perverse meaning amongst the adult fans of the show...

The My Little Pony guide to life. There's some good advice here! I especially like Spike's life lesson.

FiM Director Asks Weird Al For a Guest Appearance

I'm kind of torn about that. On the one hand I like the show and Weird Al, but I'd rather not have a trend of getting celebrities on. That can quickly make them the focus of the show, as we've seen in other cartoons like the Simpsons.

On another note, how about an article on the class-conflicts inherent to the inequality presented in Friendship is Magic?

Quote:

But the strong feminist themes of the series are built on a foundation of political contradictions. The most fantastic element of the show is not that ponies can talk or that dragons exist; it is the illusion that an egalitarian society can be maintained among groups with massive biologically inherent gaps in ability and economic utility. By even the most cursory of sociological and economic analyses, the society in MLP: FiM should be highly stratified along class and racial lines. And there are clear signs of that stratification, except they are obscured by a propagandistic focus on the power of “friendship”.

Now I know the question you all must be asking: “But don’t the historical theories of capital accumulation presuppose a world defined by scarcity and industrial development?” Of course they do. The setting of MLP: FiM, a land called Equestria (and specifically the city of Ponyville), is populated by three types of ponies. There are the earth-ponies, the most mundane type which most closely resemble real ponies. There are pegasi, flying ponies that are able to manipulate the weather. And finally, there are the unicorns, horned ponies that have a wide portfolio of magic powers, including telekinesis, alchemical transformation, and teleportation. There are also other sapient species in Equestria, such as cows; the concept of one intelligent species keeping another for milking purposes is quite disturbing if interrogated closely enough.
http://www.overthinkingit.com/2011/0...tical-economy/

For once, the comments to an article provide some good/humorous economic and sociological arguments, such as asking whether 'friendship' itself is strictly a demand-side issue or a means of production (or both, since it can apparently grant powers and be studied academically).
