Do not appropriate’ her soul to advance racist views, demands Mollie Tibbetts’ father

The father of Mollie Tibbetts, the American student whose body was found last month, has condemned those seeking to appropriate her death to promote a political agenda, after Donald Trump Jr, the US president’s son, wrote an incendiary article blaming the Democrats for her death.

“Do not appropriate Mollie’s soul in advancing views she believed were profoundly racist,” Rob Tibbetts declared in an article for the Des Moines Register. “The act grievously extends the crime that stole Mollie from our family and is, to quote Donald Trump Jr., ‘heartless’ and ‘despicable’.”

Well worth reading.

I sympathize with the father's outrage and grief. Sadly, I doubt it will make any difference to the Trumps, who don't mind lies and disregard of others' wishes and rights when it comes to advancing their own wishes.

It won’t make a difference, unfortunately. Most mass shooting incidents are committed by overentitled White men, yet the Right doesn’t seem too concerned about that disturbing trend. Though you really wish White people would address the White-White violence that is plaguing their communities.

Is this really a decent way to respond to an article like this? A father writes an article about how his daughter's murder is used for political ends and how that's despicable. And your response is to just assume that a diatribe from some other political point of view is the way to respond?

We should oppose the way the Trumps have lowered the political discourse in this country. But there are more intelligent ways of opposing it than this.

Don't forget the legions of keyboard warriors who have already made memes out of this poor woman and her family.

Since Mouse isn't using his Mollie Tibbet's death for political gains, I don't see why it would be indecent. Mouse was simply expanding on Brad's point about how the Trump people don't let things like facts and the feelings of people get in the way of scoring political points.

ETA: Rob Tibbets issue seems to be the fact that his family's tragedy means nothing but a bit fact "KA-CHING!" to Trump, not that people have political views and/or diatribes.
