Rowan County prayer lawsuit returns to 4th Circuit Court of Appeals
I'm linking to this article because the one I read this morning (July 14) isn't publicly available (it's a subscription only service). The full court said Quote:

I wondered where in the US Rowan county was so I clicked on the link. I knew it was in the southeast when NASCAR news was prominent on the page. Virginia for those who don't want to go look.

Know how to test the fairness of this? Invite a Muslim to offer a traditional Islamic prayer at the start of the meeting and see how any of these people are still speaking out in support of it.

ETA: Or even better, a Satanist or Pastafarian. Sometimes they are okay with Muslims since they do believe in the same God. |
A Satanist could work, but not even Pastafarians take Pastafarians seriously. Remember, a lot of conservative Protestants don't believe that Catholics pray to the same god that they do, much less Muslims.

"NASCAR has its official headquarters in Daytona Beach, Florida, and also maintains offices in the North Carolina cities of Charlotte, Concord, and Conover. Regional offices are located in New York City and Los Angeles, with international offices in Mexico City and Toronto."
From Wiki. Car racing in all forms, not just NASCAR, is popular throughout the southeast. Google for race tracks in your area and you may be surprised how many small circle tracks and drag tracks there are close to you. |
Also, stock car racing evolved from Appalachian moonshiners and bootleggers* souping up their cars to evade law enforcement -- so NASCAR was born in the mountain south.
*I imagine there was at least some overlap between the two groups. |
I love this board. From government sanctioned prayer to bootleggers in nine posts.

Almost every NASCAR race starts with an invocation and it is almost always Christian. So short journey.:)
