Who says corporations have no sense of humor?

Bud Light threatens Minn. brewery in medieval style

A micro-brewery in Minnesota made a new beer, called it "Dilly Dilly"; Anheuser-Busch sent a cease-and-desist letter, read aloud to the brewer by a man in medieval garb from a scroll.

Don't like Bud or Bud Light, but this gives me some respect for the corporation.

A craft brewery here got a cease and desist letter because somewhere in the US, a whiskey maker had a type of whiskey that was named similarly.

So, in a rather humourous twist, the brewer here rebranded that beer as "Cease and Desist" beer.

I don't actually quite get what claim Anheuser-Busch (aren't they called ABInBev these days?) thinks it has on the phrase "Dilly Dilly", humorous legal bullying or otherwise... am I missing something? The article didn't explain, unless I missed it.

It was an expression used in a series of Bud Light commercials.

From the second sentence in the article:

named for the popular Bud Light commercials,
And to be honest, I have no idea what they're talking about. I watch a fair amount of TV, but apparently not the channels that carry those commercials. Unless it's radio commercials? Anyways, that's what the claim is.

In the UK they are really pushing Bud Light. There current advert looks like a typical "Drink our bee and so be cool" ad, but the song over it is ripping into the cliches and stereotypes on screen. The beer is still piss, but the ad is funny.

I'm afraid that, though I'm not generally freaked out by them, if I tried to drink a bee I would briefly not be cool at all.

But it will get you buzzed.

The Lynx approach, where the bloke who uses their deodorant and gets swarmed by beautiful women in bikinis is doing so ironically?

Giving the brewer two seats at the Superbowl was very cool. It seems like some corporations are learning to avoid a big nasty backlash.

I noticed the town crier mentioned "By order of the King"... "Dear friend of the crown"... etc.

Budweiser is "The King of Beers" (their own words, not mine :) )

One of the middle paragraphs,
Quote:

According to The Growler Magazine, the owners had an idea they would be getting a message from Bud Light after they found out “Dilly Dilly” had already been trademarked as a slogan. “But then we said, ‘Screw it, let’s see what happens.’ And that’s what happens,” Kale Anderson told the magazine.
(emphasis mine)

So, basically, Bud trademarked "Dilly Dilly" for advertising beer; thus they had the right to tell the little guy not to use it in naming a beer.

Crius of CoH 10 December 2017 03:27 AM

And I just saw my first "Dilly dilly" advert. Coincidence is the secret thread that knots the world together, indeed.
