Pumpkin boat paddled down River Ouse in York

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-eng...r-ouse-in-york

Quote:

A man has paddled down the River Ouse in a giant pumpkin boat.

Tom Pearcy, who works at York Maze, claims it is a world record for the largest pumpkin boat, weighing 619kg (1364lbs).

(With video)

Apparently the "record" is at least partly because nobody has actually thought to do this before and apply for a record, but that is one huge pumpkin...

I'm skeptical of his record claim in light of the fact that Windsor, NS has a pumpkin regatta every year: https://worldsbiggestpumpkins.com/

Yes, but they've apparently never got Guinness to validate any of their records (if any) so they don't count... maybe they should have thought of that!

I mean, last year's winner will be kicking himself if this guy gets given a record - the heaviest pumpkin in Nova Scotia in 2017 was allegedly 1624 lbs (116 stone / 736 kg), so 260 lbs / 18+ stone / 118 kg heavier than the one in York. But that one wasn't made into a boat, so...

The idea of climbing into a slimy pumpkin makes me perfection happy to let others compete for this title.

They aren't slimy if you clean em out properly.

Sylvanz 29 October 2018 11:50 PM

Also, the really big pumpkins are very dry compared to their smaller cousins.

IME, even dry pumpkins get slimy if you're rubbing the inside.

Confession time: How may people's minds went to the gutter when reading Seaboe's comment?

Seaboe Muffinchucker 30 October 2018 07:07 PM

Clearly, not mine or I would have edited the comment!

I'm pretty sure that's just you, GenYus.

GenYus234 30 October 2018 08:49 PM

Fine! I'll be over here if anyone needs me.

WildaBeast 30 October 2018 09:12 PM

I read GenYus' post before I read Seaboe's comment that it referred to. So my mind did go there, but it might just have been because GenYus had already planted the idea that Seaboe's post could be interpreted in an NFBSK way in my mind. I don't know if my mind would have gone to the gutter if GenYus hadn't already tainted my thoughts.
