Unhijackable

Continuing crosswalk chat from the last thread, the walk symbols in Mexico advise people to sprint across the pedestrian crossing

Well, slow-motion sprint, actually. Difficult to pull off IRL! :D

Beachlife! 08 March 2017 02:21 PM

He's not running, he's dancing, doing the running man.

All that time my mother spent carefully teaching me never to run while crossing the road, for fear of falling down in the path of traffic.

(have I always lived by my mother's advice? nope)

The one you showed for Boston looked like an old man crossing the street.

Ferdinand has a vet appointment today that will, with luck, solve his obsession with his inappropriate region.

This morning, part of the parking lot here at work was held hostage by a pair of ducks. The male was on the berm, watching over his lady, who was variously sitting in the traffic lane, or walking slowly through it. She did not feel the presence of vehicles required her to pick up her pace (although she did stand up and move).

ETA: I almost forgot. The Bizarro for 3/8/17 (today, as I post this), is absolutely terrific.

In high school a friend of mine ran across the street during track practice, with his hands in his pockets ("It was cold," he said). Slipped and fell in the crosswalk and smashed some of the teeth out of his mouth. The light changed before he could pick the pieces up and he had to just get up and get it all replaced at the dentist

(or :fish: if you happened to know this kid in real life)

thorny locust 08 March 2017 11:53 PM

Maybe my mother knew somebody like him.

-- I am pretty careful about how and when I run in the street. Icy patches possible? No way.

Seaboe Muffinchucker 09 March 2017 03:13 PM

The older I get the more paranoid I am about falling face-first. This has to do with what part of my jaw I broke, a long-term generalized fear of falling, and stress nightmares involving falling down stairs.

I don't run, however, because I'm a very poor runner, and have been since childhood.

Unhijackably, Ferdinand's issue has been solved. He may have solved part of it himself. I noticed when I got home yesterday, that he had been less involved with himself than the day before, and the vet noted that one gland, while inflamed, was pretty empty. Per his reluctance to walk far or fast, he appears to still be in some pain (the doctor warned me he would be), but he isn't whining under his breath as he lays on my bed anymore.

In addition to the Chrome extension that turns photos of Donald Trump into kittens, there is now an extension that turns Donald's tweets into a crayon sentence.

Look up: Make Trump Tweets Eight Again

I noticed a Firefox version.

It is a freaking hoot!

There we go. I got mine through a link in an online news article. Never actually saw the site.

Thanks for that. I'll concede the point and be happy with the assist! :D

Anybody know what happened to A Turtle Named Mack?

He usually posts quite a bit; but hasn't been here since February 9. That was just before the link to these boards vanished from the main snopes site; but I would think that even if he'd been getting here by that route he'd have been able to find the boards again by now.

I hope you people are not depending on Snopes to tell you the truth.

The link's back. Hope ATNM will be too.

thorny locust 10 March 2017 08:15 PM

Hey, the link is back! It was all the way down at the bottom of the page, and I'd missed it.

Well, that's encouraging.

I worry he may have gone the way of so many who used to post a lot here, and then...stopped. It does seem like the site is sort of winding down as a lot of the old familiar faces now just...aren't.

Sue 10 March 2017 09:33 PM

A few weeks ago I was sucked in the time waster of looking back at older threads (time waster but fun) anyway it was sad to see just how many familiar names showed up, many who were posting regularly here as recently as 2014-2015 but who never post here anymore. I won't list them all but I miss a lot of them :(.

dfresh 11 March 2017 01:16 AM

The site has slowed down greatly over the past few years. Of course, when I first started hanging around about 2002ish, people were talking fairly often about how the site had changed and slowed down a lot over the years.

thorny locust 11 March 2017 01:51 AM

FWIW, there have been just over a hundred different people logged into the boards within the last day; and about 170 within the last week. I don't know how many we used to get.

The bit at the bottom of the main page says

Quote:

Most users ever online was 5,885, 01 May 2016 at 01:23 PM
which was less than a year ago; but that apparently includes people reading but not logged in, who obviously would also not be posting. -- I do wonder what was happening on that date.

mbravo 11 March 2017 02:35 AM

I've lurked for a long time, since before the boards changed over. It's weird to see just how many years it's been since a user was last active. I remember when RivkahChaya used to post a lot, and I think she last logged in in 2013. It doesn't seem like it was that long ago I was reading her posts.

Dasla 11 March 2017 07:39 AM

I have noticed the slowing down of posts. I did think it was because I am not working, I am coming here more often. But it is more then that.

I also had trouble finding the link from the main page for awhile, can't remember who I eventually got here but now the message board is in my favourites.

And like many of you I would have also have said many of those you mentioned had posted more recently then they had.
