Paul is a meatball
Comment: A friend recently sent me a short article with a pic of a buffet
sign that said "Paul is dead." According to the article, this is the
transliteration of the word "meatball" into Arabic, and "Paul is Dead" is
the literal English translation as there is no Arabic or Kurdish word for

I kinda hope this one is true.

And just to get picky, the word "ball" in Arabic is not exactly ball. It is written as bool (rhymes with and is spelled the same way as pool)**. Boule is a French word for Ball. Given the French influence in Syria and Lebanon, it would not surprise me if kafta balls were some times called kafta boules.

And, if the Arabic speller wanted to spell "ball", there is a way for that to be transliterated as well.

The Dead bit, is beyond me. The Arabic word is the Arabic word for dead. Dead Balls. Maybe they were old baseball fans?

**Maybe they are referring to a dead pool?!?

I don't know. But I do know of the book and unrelated film called the Dead Pool.
