Comment: How can this happen? I have sent this email about an amber alert
to tons of people, how can we not be cautious and forward this
information. At the end of the article it said if it were your child you
would. That got me completely. I can not imagine having a missing child
and for this to be a hoax. How can we verify when we get a missing child
amber alert email. How do we know if it is an actual amber alert?

Comment: Your pictorial/message about illegal Mexicans crossing the U.S.
border leaving all sorts of debris behind was a good job in terms of
reporting. Is that all Snopes does, report? You're so popular among
internet users, I wonder if you have some policy which EXCLUDES
constructive suggestions for improving a "bad scene"?

No, they report and validate. They aren't drama coaches, however.

Comment: Re; the snopes page about the perfume being sold in parking lots
(ether) ? This is an email from a friend of mine.

---------------------------------------

Johnnie, This has happen to me right here in RR, Nc
At Wal-Mart and again at Big Lots.
I said no thank you, went inside and call the police.
It took them 1 hour to show up and then told me
that they had a right to sell in area store lots but not
on the public streets. I told them to smell the stuff.
they just laughed and left. I felt like a fool, holding
the ....... end of stick.
Ann
I have sent this to over 200 people.

Comment: I'm wondering if this report is true:

http://message.snopes.com/showthread.php?t=14115

It says a man named Mathew heard God tell him to stop his car just before
the I-35 bridge collapsed in Minneapolis, thereby saving many lives.

This story is on your "glurge" board, which I can't fathom. Is that stuff
supposed to be true? You say it's to "contain" glurges.

I heard the story by word of mouth, not on the internet.

Well then, if you heard it by word of mouth, then it definitely must be true.

I do believe there is a website that is devoted to Amber Alerts, ahhh yes its the Amber Alert website. You may want to check there. Which would be Amberalert.gov

Comment: First time to checkout snopes. I had the impression before that
it was a place to confirm the truth of rumors. Boy, was I wrong! It
seems to be the home of rumor mills. Do people just like to get
stuff/rumors started on the Internet? If this is so, this is just
pathetic! Surely, you people have something better to do with your lives.

snopes 06 November 2007 06:44 PM

Comment: Note the contradiction in these 2 paragraphs from SNOPES.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Although the custom is sometimes more honored in the breach than in the
observance, the U.S. Flag Code states that:
During a rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all
present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag
with the right hand over the heart.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

(It's also not clear from the photograph or the video just what the
candidates are looking at. The Flag Code advises that they should be
"standing at attention facing the flag,"..................)

Arriah 06 November 2007 09:45 PM

Well that's the first time I've ever seen someone accused of contradicting themselves for using the exact same words twice.

snopes 08 November 2007 07:02 PM

Comment: There is a poster on the discussion board who goes by the name
"snopes" with the subheading "administrator." Is this poster from Snopes
itself? If so, are the posts representative of Snopes or anonymous
comments sent to Snopes. Ie when I see an upset or ranting post by
"snopes," should I understand it as an anonymous rant or distressed post
from a reader sent to the administrator OR as the authors of Snopes.com
itself being upset and ranting OR something else?

Comment: Regarding your recent entry:
http://www.snopes.com/photos/risque/firenews.asp

You may be interested to know that the term ejaculate has multiple
meanings, one of which is "to utter suddenly and briefly; exclaim." This
lesser known meaning fits more reasonably in the context of the given
caption, and could have been an honest mishearing rather than a typo.

tried to place an order with QVC and they wanted those numbers, I didn't
do it. What do you think?

It's a way to verify the card. On most on line orders I have been asked for this number.

I think you won't be getting anything from QVC.
