I just learnt more about Japan in that 10 minutes than I ever did at school.

In school, what I think I remember learning was: One day Matthew Perry sailed in and opened up Japan. They modernized, and later had a war with Russia which they pretty much won and Teddy Roosevelt helped negotiate the end. Then, World War II.
Everything prior to Perry? Not mentioned that I remember. (Though I mainly remember studying American history, so from that point of view it kind of makes sense.) |
Most of what I knew about Japan prior to Perry's arrival I learned from playing Samurai Warriors on PS2. :p

For me it was reading "Shogun" (which means most of it is not quite right).
