Who invented the huddle?

Comment: Who invented the football HUDDLE? Did deaf quarterback Paul D.
Hubbard od Amos Alonzo Stagg, coach of the University of Chicago "Monsters
of the Midway",National Champions in 1905?

Is a "Huddle" (as in grouping close together to talk strategy so your opponent doesn't hear you) really something that has to be "invented" in the sense of it happening for the first time at one specific point? It's like asking who invented whispering or leaning in close. It wouldn't be something that got invented per se, just something that would naturally happen given the circumstance.

Or are we talking more specifically its use in football in the official sense as in time out for a huddle or calling for a huddle?

Paul Hubbard seems to be the most likely person but it seems like it wasn't something that really caught on til years later.
